Why We Wear What Interests Us

Chapter Two

Why We Wear What Interests Us

"The Story Your T-Shirt Tells Before You Say a Word."

Have you ever noticed how a simple T-shirt can start a conversation?

You're standing in a queue waiting for a coffee.
Someone smiles.

"Great shirt."

Five minutes later you're talking about mountain hiking...
or marathon running......or philosophy......or classic cars...
or whether there really was something extraordinary about the ancient world.

All because of something you chose to wear that morning.
I've always found that fascinating.
Because people don't just wear clothes.
They wear little pieces of themselves.

We Don't Just Wear Fabric

Think about your favourite T-shirt for a moment.
Not necessarily the newest one.
Not the most expensive one.
The one you instinctively reach for.

Why?

Because somewhere along the way it stopped being just another item of clothing.
It became familiar.Comfortable. A reflection of something that matters to you.
Maybe it reminds you of an adventure.
Maybe it makes you smile.
Maybe it says something you wish you'd thought of yourself.
Or maybe it quietly tells the world...

"This is who I am."

I think that's something fashion often forgets.

Fashion Comes and Goes...

Interests Tend to Stay, Fashion is constantly changing.
One week something is everywhere.
A few months later nobody wants to be seen wearing it.
But genuine interests are different.
If you've always loved looking up at the stars...
You'll probably still love looking up at the stars twenty years from now.
If philosophy makes you stop and think...
It will probably still challenge you next year.
If running clears your head...
It'll still clear your head after the next hundred miles.
If you love camping, restoring old engines, photographing wildlife,
or disappearing into a fascinating book...

Those things become part of who you are.
They're not trends.
They're part of your story.

And I think that's worth celebrating.

That's How WildOrbit Designs Begin

People often ask where design ideas come from.
The truth is...
They rarely begin with a blank T-shirt.
They begin with a conversation.
A question. A random fact.
A half-finished thought scribbled into a notebook.
Sometimes it's something I read.
Sometimes it's a walk.
Sometimes it's a documentary that sends me off exploring another rabbit hole
for the next two hours.
Sometimes it's simply watching someone talk passionately about something they love.
That's the moment I start thinking...

"Wouldn't it be great if there was a design that captured that feeling?"

The artwork comes later.
The interest always comes first.

More Than a Collection

One of the things I've enjoyed most while building WildOrbit is discovering just how wonderfully different people's passions can be.

Some people are fascinated by the mysteries of the ancient world.
Some never stop looking towards the stars.
Some find peace sitting quietly beneath a tree.
Others find it running ten miles before breakfast.
Some are happiest under the bonnet of a classic car.
Some can spend hours in a garden without noticing time passing.
Some can't walk past a dog without stopping to say hello.

Different interests.
Different stories.
Different personalities.

But they all have one thing in common.

They care.

And caring about something is becoming surprisingly rare in a world that's always trying to distract us.

Wear What Interests You

That simple sentence has quietly become the philosophy behind WildOrbit.
Not...
Wear what's fashionable.
Not...
Wear what everyone else is wearing.
Wear what genuinely interests you.
Wear the things that remind you who you are.
Wear the things that make someone smile.
Wear the things that spark a conversation.
Wear the things that make another curious person say...
"Where did you get that?"

Because sometimes the smallest conversations become the most memorable ones.

The Best Conversations Start With Curiosity

Curiosity has an interesting habit.
It doesn't stay neatly inside one subject.
Someone interested in space often enjoys science.
Someone interested in philosophy usually enjoys history.
Someone who loves hiking often develops a fascination with wildlife.
One interest quietly leads to another.

That's exactly how WildOrbit has grown.

Every new collection started because one interesting idea led naturally to the next.
I have a feeling that journey will never really end.
And honestly...

I hope it doesn't.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming weeks, I'll be using this journal to explore the stories behind many of our collections.

Not as sales pages.
As conversations.
We'll look at fascinating facts.
Remarkable people.
Forgotten history.
Great adventures.
Unexpected ideas.
The things that inspired the designs in the first place.
Because once you understand the story...

The design somehow means a little more.

Before You Go...

If there's one thing I'd love you to take away from today's conversation, it's this.
Never be afraid to celebrate what genuinely interests you.
Whether that's running through forests at sunrise...
Learning about ancient civilizations...
Growing flowers...
Finding stillness...
Building engines...
Watching the stars...
Or simply making people laugh.

Those interests are part of what makes you uniquely you.
And I think the world could always do with a little more individuality.

So wear what interests you.
Wear it proudly.
And if it starts an interesting conversation along the way...

Even better.

I'll see you again soon.

Next time, we'll open the first collection sketchbook and explore one of the ideas that helped shape WildOrbit.

Until then...

Stay curious.
